It seems that the 3.73's are the most popular choice for the 1999-2004 Mustangs. But a lot of people can't decide on whether they want the 3.73's or the 4.10's. Just out of curiosity why don't most people just split the difference and go with the 3.90's. I think Eliminator makes a 3.90 for the Mustang.

A 3.73 works perfectly on a Stang. Don't get me wrong, a 4.10 definitely packs a punch, but they are TOO low for someone that drives alot on the highway, and burn much more gas. A 3.73is low enoughfor abig increase in off theline times if you can get it to hook, and stilldeliver good gas mileage. You do have a good point though...

The problem people have deciding between 3.73's & 4.10's is gas mileage.

Around town, you will not see any difference. With the 4.10's, you can start from lights in 2nd gear and then skip to 4th & 5th, and you can actually GAIN gas mileage with 4.10's.

Although, if you are a frequent highway driver, 4.10's will run your motor at a higher rpm on the highway, but just slightly higher than 3.73's at that. Most people here, who chose 3.73's over 4.10's regret not going with the 4.10's. Gears paired with a peppy modular engine, you can excpet .4-5's in the quarter mile.

Not everyone builds their stang to hit the track every weekend either. IMO 3.73 should come stock in all mustangs. I absolutly love them. The gear ratio is exactly where I want it to be. Having 4.10's seems to be too much for a car that doesn't hit the track that often or at all. I probably have this opinion because I own a vert and like to cruise. Maybe if I had a hardtop and had a track to take it to every weekend I'd be for the steeper gear ratio. But... I have neither so that's why I like 3.73s.

How is 4.10's eating at gas mileage when it's only 200 more rpms than 3.73's????? Besides, get a decent exhaust, t/a, or chip, & you're gas mileage will balance itself out. Everybody I've ever talked to that has used 3.73's instead of 4.10's or lower (I know a guy who uses 4.30's as a daily) regrets it, 'cept for our guy here who likes to "cruise." 4.10's here.

So does anyone out there have the 3.90's on their car?? I'm curious to know what they are like. I have had my heart set on 4.10's, BUT if I can get gears that are a tad better on the highway......I'm gonna start looking around for 3.90's. Let me know if anyone has them.

Sorry, dont want to hijack your thread but what do you guys think about the 3.90's on a "cough cough" AODE? I use this car for work so it does see a lot of highway along with city driving. But until i get my 66 done its my weekend racer too.
