Default idling rough?

when im sittin at a light or somewhere in traffic my ustang idles a little it less than perfect. i have heard that after a while the timing for the fuel injectors gets off a little and makes it do that. any one have any suggestions? also there is a ticking under the ride side of the hood (from inside the car) when im givin it a small amount of gas. its not a lifter. it sounds like a slight spark knock.

Default idling rough?

DUDE FINALLY, somebody else has the same problem I have!!!! LOL. </P>

That tick is the most annoying thing in the world to me, and you're right, it's coming from the right side of the car, and it only happens under light acceleration. I have not been able to pinpoint it, and I have no idea what it could be. I would love to get it to STOP!! <IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0">You're right, it's not a lifter...I know this because your car doesn't have lifters. <IMG src=smileys/smiley14.gif border="0">You're thinking of the cam followers or tappets.</P><edited><editID>USAMuscle</editID><editDate>37933.9580902778</editDate></edited>

Default idling rough?

I have the same rough idle brought it to ford several times. They said my ICU was bad and I had a failed mass air sensor (then again my car would idle down and kill). Yeah that was like 450 , still is groggy but doesnt die on me.

Let me know if replacing the injectors fixes it. If so, new injectors will be next on my list.

Sounds very similar to this problem.</P>

<FONT face=Arial>According to Ford, the 4.6L engines "may exhibit an engine tick noise that is present at all temperatures during idle. The noise may be emanating from the valve guide area in the cylinder head. The noise may be more prevalent in the front wheel area, any may not be heard with the hood open."</FONT> </P>

You probably need to replace the Idle air control valve, I had the same problem and I fix it myself, easy to replace..dont take it to a delaer or shop, they will rip you off..use an OBD II scanner to pull codes, buy one. </P>
