Default HELP PLEASE!

Hey Guys, as some of you might know i installed 4.10 gears in my car, i got it back and they were whining like crazy sounded worse than before the original gears blew. I took it back to the shop. Said that the Backlash setting was at .008 i told him listen one of the guys from the forum said to set it around .004 and it shouldn't be a problem. Was i wrong?

.008 should be fine. I think the proper range is .008 -.012 but I could be mistaken. The guy who did mine set it to .008 and all's well

That's weird then, because i kid you not. It sounded Worse when it was set to .008 like about to blow again worse. Should i suggest anything else? He's already in the process as we speak to changing it to .004 So i mean if it still howls and i mean howl. What should i say?

I would say he either doesn't know how to set it correctly or the preload bearing wasn't setup correctly or he messed up a bearing or something else lol. The whole process demands a lot of precision and it comes down to, it's either done correctly or it's not.

I rebuilt an Explorer's rear end, also an 8.8, that was whining and howling like crazy as well. I wound up replacing the 4 bearings inside, 2 carrier bearings and 2 pinion bearings, and it fixed the problem. It sounds like your bearings are probably bad.

Yeah, when they replaced the gears the first time about 3 weeks ago they replaced the bearings and the gaskets and everything else. all brand new I hope. I mean that's what they said. To be honest I'm just fed up with this guy and getting free work out of it until he gets it right. I'm never going back to him again. It's been such a hassle with these guys, and after talking with you guys i feel like i know more than him when it comes to his own job.
