That's only 14 mpg. Is most of your driving in the city. I drive 7-10 mph over the speed limit. That 75-80 on the interstate, 60-65 on the highways, and 60-?? on the county roads. I get an average of 20 mpg.

You got screwed man. Personally I think you can tell just from driving the car - seems like a big difference to me....
But regardless after all this time - the gears cost what less then $200.00 I'm sure - if he's not willing to fix it - your best bet is to post his name on here and that way everyone will know - lawyers and legal stuff cost way to much for the bother and small claims court is a joke anyway ....
(or you could burn his shop to the ground ..... - just kidding)
( but seriously.....)

I'll fill in the rest of the story since I never posted the resolution of the first go-round with the gears.
Originally (last year) when the gears were initially installed, they produced a ton of gear whine. The guy who did the install swore he got it right and claimed that the noise had to be coming from the transmission (which had never previously made any noise). I didn't believe him, so I took the car to two other mechanics to listen to and they both said that the noise was definitely coming from the rear end and it was likely that guy didn't get the install right or maybe the gears were defective. So I go back to the transmission shop, and tell him that I didn't think that the noise was coming from the transmission and neither did anyone else I talked to. He said that he wanted to take another crack at setting up the rear end, and he'd do it for free. I agreed to let him try again. The next day he said that he put in another set of gears that he happened to have on hand and that now it's quiet as stock. Which it is. He charged me for the gears he installed and said to return the gears I bought from American Muscle because they were defective. I did and American Muscle verified the gears were indeed defective and issues a refund for them.
However with the issue with the speedometer/odometer accuracy, I'm now thinking that the gears he happened to have laying around weren't 4.10s.
