With the right design turbo lag can minimized, i would prefer a twin turbo stang over a roots or centrifugal blower anyday of the week

Oh man here we go...
CAI- Delievers more and cooler air to the engine so that the engine can breathe more. Densecharger, K&N, and steeda are some of the better brands. Anyone can install it, it's really easy and shouldn't take even 40 min. I did mine in 20 min. They can range from about $120-$220.
MAF- Theres no need unless you have a supercharger, turbo, or some kind of forced induction. Theres too many brands to list and all of them should be good. It allows more air to enter your engine at a higher rate. I dunno prices for them.
Throttle body/ plenum- Allows more air to enter the engine at a higher rate of speed (are you seeing a trend here?) It also increases throttle response (how long it take for the engine to start accelerating when you step on the gas) And adds a few HP. Accufab is one of the better brands out there. They can run from $350-$450. 70mm is good enough for N/A (naturally aspired) applications But you will need to go 75mm for best performance when you have forced induction. Should add 5-7hp (may be more on a forced induction application.)
I'll add more tomorrow.

RE: TECH: Basic Mods for your 96-04 GT
I have a 2001 GT w/ a cat back system. I would like to complete the rest of my exhaust but I can't decide on long tube headers w/ shorty x-pipe or shorty headers and a normal x-pipe. The thing holding me up is what is legal and what isn't. Can I run long tube headers and a shorty x-pipe w/ high flow cats or are long tubes still not legal? I live in virginia by the way if that matters. I'de like to have the extra power of long tubes but the car is my daily driver so it needs to be legal...

ok since u got a convertible ur car is heavier then a hard top so u have extra weight i would go with 4.10 gears in a drop top & 3.73 for a hard top. It would even out to be about the same ull love either of them

RE: TECH: Basic Mods for your 96-04 GT
Ford recalled my 03 Mach1 and beefed up the tranny. I kept complaining about it not shifting from 2nd to 3rd at anything over 5K RPM. That was about a thousand dollar deal. I also put on a Steeda Tri-ax short throw shifter, and a beefed up clutch. That was another thousand dollars. That solved the problem, and now I have a stiff clutch, but it grabs very tight and quick. I hate the 5 speed tremec tranny, so my next upgrade is a T-6.
