Transmission torque ratings
I have a general question about transmissions. If you were to have 600-700 hp can you beef up your stock transmisson to handle that or would you have to get a whole new trans. Would just a new clutch that handles that power work or is there more to it. I am a novice trying to learn how to build my car right. THanks

I would opt to buy a build tranny to support 600-700 rwhp. You can of course go with Viper Spec or TKO 600 both rated for 600 rwhp. You simply cannot just slap on a clutch with a stock tranny at that horsepower level.
When building a car or motor you replace one part you got to think of the weakiest link i.e. would be your tranny. Are you planning on building your car in stages? I have 450 rwhp on a stock tranny and going to 500 rwhp next month and have no problems but I am not taking my car to the track. Two things left on my car is tranny/driveshaft and rearend.

I have about 450 hp right now also. I was just thinking in terms of money. I ordered a forged short block and will be uping the boost. I wanted to make sure the tranny can handle it. I was thinking about getting a new tranny but its not in the budget yet. I was trying to think about the most economical way of doing this until i had the money.
