Default File-Fit piston rings

i purchaced a complete rotating assembly with file fit rings. i know it is possible to file them myself but i have never done it. i am wanting to do the entire motor myself and have been successful thus far.... should i just take the block, pistons and such to a shop and have them do it? or is it plausible to do it myself?

It is not difficult to file fit. You typically use a tool to file the ring straight. I am sure it is a cheap tool available through summit/jegs. just put the ring in the cylinder, use a piston to push it in even, then use a feeler gauge to chech the gap. File it until you get it where you want it.

Your piston manufacturer will have specific directions to filing the rings, it is different for forged and hyper and cast even, they have a formula to figure it by and it isnt hard lol simple math!

what brand pistons do you have? got a part number? you should have a paper that came in the box with them with the info on it but if not i may be able to look it up for you if you cant find it!
