Default Weird RPM problem?

Hey, so i have a 2000 mustang GT 5 speed, recently when im in neutral my car is hanging at 700rpms and will jump to 1300 and then go back down every 10 secs. I know i have a CEL on due to having a emission leak from the purge canister but this jump in rpms just started today. Anyone have any idea what it could be? Thanks

sounds like you most likely have a vacuum leak or an idle air control valve sticking, I would get you code scanned again and go from there.
you can also check for a vacuum leak by spraying brake cleaner around your intake and vacuum hoses while the engine is running, if the engine revs up quick when spraying, thats where to look for a leak.
hope this helps

I agree with mustangmike, it sounds like a vacuum leak. how long has the purge canister been giving you a CEL?

How does it idle? Is it idleing at 700rpms or lower? even a small vac leak will cause havok

I checked the CEL still the same error code as before. I realized it only happens when i have the heat or defroster on in my car otherwise it doesn't really do it.

It's the IAC, Some have reported success cleaning it with TB cleaner/etc. but Ford says it "...cannot be cleaned or adjusted, and should be replaced."

My experience has been just replace it and get on with your life.
