SCT Tune/inspection/codes
04 GT - upper plenum, 75mm TB, cold air, cat back, I have run a 93 tune from brenspeed for 3+ years and about 25k miles - trouble free, code free, car ran great. I moved to NJ from NY and the car fails inspection with the 93 tune (never had a problem in NY). When I put the stock tune back in, after driving about 5 miles I get P1000 and P0600 codes. I drove the car for a few days and about 75 miles (car ran fine) and then cleared the codes. No codes have reset in the 13 miles since clearing them. I have about 7 more miles to get to the guy doing the inspection. Will 20 or so miles be enough to have the monitors ready for inspection, or will I need to drive more? Can anyone offer any insight why it would all of a sudden set a code when I returned to the stock tune when there were no codes with the 93 tune? Thanks. Kevin

Re-flashing the tune (stock or otherwise) clears the OBD2 system "readiness" flags.
The system will have to complete all emission related tests before the P1000 DTC will be reset, in most states they will reject a car showing P1000.
The O2 sensor heater resistance test is one of the emissions tests that must be successfully completed before the P1000 flag will be reset--it is not generally executed. It's the rear sensor on the driver's side, could be a shorted or corroded connector, or a bad sensor.
If you had them turned off in the tune then the sensor could be fouled, they don't take well to being unheated and in the exhaust stream--if gunked up enough the heater will draw too much current.

Thanks Cliff.
Bank 2 is driver's side? That'd explain it. I swapped out the passenger side post-cat sensor - my brain was in GM, bank 2 = passenger side mode. Only took a minute to do (thanks to my kwiklift). Code reset in about 4 miles of driving.

Super - Thanks
I'll drop the stock o2 sensor that I wrongfully removed into the b2s2 spot. I figure once I pass inspection, I'll put the tune back in and the downstreams will be shut off for the next two years anyway. Thanks for the help. Kevin

im having inspection problems right now..if i go into my xcal 2 and clear all DTC's, will the p1000 reappear? i know clearingthe DTC's doesnt get rid of the p1000 because i tried it, lol, but once it goes away and say another sensor goes off, could i "clear all DTC's" then go through inspection?

I have no practical experience with this as here in Saint Augustine FL we have not had any vehicle inspection since I moved here 18 years ago--Florida as a whole dropped it 12 to 15 years ago.

so if my only code is an emission code and i clear all DTC's, ill be fine...but an emission code is supposed to set off the p1000 also, so id have to drive around until the p1000 goes away and hope the emission code doesnt come back?

Pretty much...
Makes me glad I don't have to deal with that BS--they should make it so you can pay them some money and buy an indulgence, sort of a "carbon credit" for performance cars.
It's mostly all about money anyway...
