98 cobra pistons and 44cc tf heads
#4
I went with 99 cobra pistons and PI heads which is the equivalent of 38cc heads in your question and ended up with 11.7 to 1 comp. and I love it. It will require a custom tune to keep it out of detonation but other than that its been great. If you are uncomfortable with comp that high the 44cc heads should be about 10.5 to 1 but recommend the 38cc to get the most out of it. by the way I drive mine daily and have about 3500 miles on it already.
good luck with your build
ps nick recommended my build to me he really knows his stuff.

the only cobra pistons that are even forged is the 03/04 pistons. all the other pistons are the same as normal gt pistons (roughly 550hp). why would you spend 2 grand just on your heads to throw in some 100$, used, non-forged pistons and rods from a 98?
i honestly cannot understand why you would use those, unless its for slightly higher compression than stock GT pistons but at that point you obviously have no high-horsepower goals for this car which makes me wonder why you spent 2 grand on the heads in the first place.
my logic doesnt add up on this.

You dont have to do anything they just drop in. My block and crank looked good so I just bought a new set of rod bearings and simply installed them. If you use those heads you probably will have no PTV issues (ask nick) if you use factory heads you will need to get the pistons flycut first.
Those heads are to much for most engine combos unless you are going power adder (supercharger, turbo, nitro ect) or NA at least 8,000 RPM. If thats not your plan then I suggest ported PI's from Nick they will be a lot cheaper and be a better match for your combo.
Most of all good luck and have fun with your build!!

Alright, not sure im gonna get them or not yet but yea im going with the trick flows ( as of right now anyways) because id eventually like to spin it to 7500-8k on a better bottom end and make some real power.

well unless your spinning to 7500-8000 you wont make any more power than some ported PI heads so thats 500$ wasted splurging for the trickflows. and you say better bottom end, but cobra pistons and rods are no different than the ones in your GT. the only difference is piston dishing (if any, i dont know what the cobras is).
