Default question about cam timing

Hey guys,

I made the decision to go with stage 2 mhs cams. I also bought the dvd from trickflow on how to install the cams. The question I have is, in the dvdthey show how to line up your timing chains with the marks on the chains and the marks on the cam gear and the mark on the crank shaft at 6 o'clock. If I get the cam gears degreed from mhs is this all I will have to do for my timing?

Nice choice on the cams. Those are the ones i'm running as well. You'll still need to line things up. If the cams come in too advanced or retarded from the proper specs, you'll need the adjustable crank gears as well.

I hear you. But from my understanding, they will degree the cam gears perfectly before they send them out. Is this possible? If they do this as long as I line the chain up I should be fine correct?

Right, but if the cams come in too far out of spec, the adjustable crank gears will be needed as well. The cam gears only work up to a certain point. I forget how much off the top of my head though. When your cams come in, Nick will let you know what's needed.

Ok awesome. I appreciate your knowledge. How did yours turn out? How long did it take you to complete yours? Have any tips or tricks I should know?

I needed the adjustable crank gears along with the matched cam gears, because my cams came 7 degrees retarded. My buddy who has done cam swaps before on mod motors helped me. Once we figured out how to line everything up right (he had never used adjustable crank gears before) it went fine.

MHS has a writeup on their website on how to do it.

Right, but if the cams themselves come in more than a few degrees off spec, he will need the adjustable crank gears as well to bring them back to the proper centerline.
