oh of course, luckily I would be able to do something like this myself, but keep in mind guys that would take a job like this to a mechanic your probably looking at $500+ just for install

Is this a fairly easy garage job stanger? I am thinking about upgrading as well.
i was sayin price wise, would upgrading the 8.8 to 31 spline be cheaper/more cost effective, than going with a full out 9" setup - i would hope that the 9" would be a 31 spline, i dont know jack about the 9" - have seen some parts for "28 spline ford 9 inch rears" not sure where/why they are used though...
i knew a guy that was dead set on a 9" for his v6 turbo, even though i told him he could probably get a used full assembly 8.8 that would take him to his goals easily for 250-500$ and wouldnt have to trade out or fab up some magic suspension parts. i think he wound up goin with an IRS.
If you plan on doing this urself make sure you have all the measuring tools and specs. Being slightly out of spec can cause catastrophic damage to a rear end, excessive backlash, whining, and gear damage just to name a few. 5.0 and fast fords has a good tutorial on setting up rear ends. Sorry i dont have a link but should be relatively easy to find on the website
I upgraded my stock differential with the carbon disks a couple years ago, because I was getting the one wheel burnouts at the track and now its back to that again. I do drive it quite a bit and beat on it with drag radials, which could have worn them out quick, but next go around I'm gonna go with a 31spline detroit truetrac or locker.
