What is the best mod for a 97
Yep. If you can, start with the head swap on the engine mods. You'll pick up about 50-60 horses with stock PI heads, a little more with ported PI heads. You should be able to find any set of PI heads for under $1,000, which makes them one of the most cost-effective upgrades for your car.

If you can only spend $200, just use it on a shifter. I haven't had any experience with any of the aftermarket shifters yet, but I will be getting a Steeda Tri-ax very soon because my transmission is being rebuilt right at the moment, and it makes life on your tranny a whole lot easier. I've heard nothing but good things about the Tri-ax, and it can be had for well under $200, so maybe give that a shot.

If you get a set of 3:73 gears. It's not gonna be that bad. Plus if you do a free flowing exhaust and upgrade your intake. you car will be getting better milage anyway, so the grears really won't hurt you at all.
