So you're saying it pulled a lot harder with a cat back, cai, and tune or just with the cai alone?

i put the cold air intake on first.it made the biggest hp gain over the catback and over the caned tune. this is real world results, seat of the pants proof. the car just pulled so much harder, i could not been more happier.. i have been building cars for a long time( 25 years) . i built my 72 nova from the ground up, and on pump gas no power adder all steel ( but hood) ran a 6.52 at a 105 in the 1/8 mile with a 1.43 60 foot.. i know what im talking about. now with the mustang this is new to me. the k@n cai was the best add on for my car over the flowmaster catback and over the caned tune.

Why do you have no interest in long tubes? They are supposed to be a lot better.

Mostly have no interest in long tubes because i do not want to pull the engine to install them! Besides, i have read that the difference isnt to remarkable between long and short tubes. Not saying thats the be all and I buy it 100 percent but thats what ive read. At any rate, headers are longer term down the road for me, mostly due to install time and not having a good place to do it as i have an apartment. I hate paying for labor that i can do myself just because i dont have a good place to do it. Rear end gears, thats a different story.

Just so you know, you don't have to pull the engine to do long tubes. It's really not a lot more difficult to install them over shorties. Both will be PITA really.

I'm wondering if the CAI "gain" reported above could have been due to a very dirty air filter in the factory intake???
That is the only way I can rationalize someone with some car knowledge claiming that the CAI was the best performance mod they have made.

That is one of the last mods I would suggest a guy to start with. Maybe it is more helpful once other mods have been done, but not so much as a beginning mod.

GEARS are absolutely my recommended first mod.

I agree with you TRUEBLUE. Something doesn't add up. Everybody and their brother who has been around these cars long enough knows a cai doesn't do much at all.

Yeah, You don't need to pull the engine. I've read it's not even necessary to drop the k-member, and even if you do drop the k-member, I've read it takes 45mins-1 hour

To install long tubes on a modular GT?

It 4-5 hours for an experienced mechanic with a lift who is fast, 8-10 hours for a skilled owner to do in a garage. Many have made it a weekend project...

I meant just to drop the k-member. I knew I should have gone back and edited. I know I read a thread sometime this week where a guy dropped the k-member in an hour.

What exactly makes it so difficult once the k-member is out of the way? Are there still bad clearance issues?
