Ok. 15 all the around...or just swap the rears and have at it? Again i appreciate the posts. And look into some smaller rims.American muscle only has the cobra R's in 16s...and could do all 4.

if your desire is to have an optimal drag race setup, you would want skinnies up front, which i don't think AM carries. but, seeing as how you want a mixture of drag, autoX and streetability, keep on the rims you have now and just change out the rears when you goto the strip, while keeping whatever street rims/tires you have up front, as ox suggested. also, i don't recommend daily driving on the tires you plan to race with, as DR's and slicks aren't the best for wet, or just general DD, performance and will wear down much faster than normal street-friendly tread.

now i know some people will say DR's are fine for the street, but keep in mind that some are more suited for use at the strip than others. if you get MT or Hoosier DR's, for example, you would do best NOT driving them around town, as they are definitely geared more for the strip than say Nitto 555r's.

Holy cow! What a crazy thread. That's what I get for being out of town and away from the forum for a few days...

This is a difficult one because I don't want to step on any toes here. In no particular order:

Just because it's physically possible to drive the same car on the street, roadrace track, and drag strip, that doesn't mean that there is a combination which works well in all three scenarios.

A car with full drag suspension will not corner any better than the same car with stock suspension. Likewise, a car with full roadrace suspension will not launch any better than the same car with stock suspension. Anybody that tells you different is telling stories.

That said, it's possible to find a compromise. I typically do something like a mostly drag suspension setup, a little lower than stock, but with 17" or 18" wheels. That setup handles well enough to do a little cornering on the street without being a white-knuckle ordeal. But then when you bolt on a set of slicks or DRs, the suspension really shines. I won't claim that's a good setup for roadracing though.

I believe the OP has mentioned several times that he's looking for a street-strip setup. As such, I can't believe anyone's actually suggesting roadrace suspension for that application. It would be a mistake.

Of course I'm going to suggest UPR Products suspension. Mainly because it works extremely well, but I work there so my opinion can be misconstrued as being biased. I guess I could render that point moot by suggesting suspension LIKE UPR Pro Street suspension (even if it's not our brand) and that way I'm still getting my point across.

At what horsepower and slick setup will I be looking to take off and leave my axle behind me? I still have the stock axles, plan on going up to 31spline, but not until i really need to at this point. Will have have enough clearance to run 325/50/15's ox? I know when I throw slicks on it, its going to test just about everything.

Something like this wheel here:

How hard on the car would it be to drive a mile or two with the drag wheels on 15x12 if i have room for them, and 17s in the front, city driving, no real turns.

You're not gonna get a 15x12 on a stock suspension stock tub car. You will have to run a 15x10.

I have seen axles break at 300ft lbs on a DR with a good drag suspension.

Wow. Alright. So i assumr my next project wilk be the axle replacement. I assume they arent just swap on swap out because of the spline different. Is this a whole rear rebuild? I have all new everything when i got the 4.10s installed not to many miles ago.

Yup got to change everything.

But don't worry with your suspension you won't hook enough to break them with 1000hp LOL

Hahahahaha. Boy i knew that was coming....lol. so what are your recommendations for a bhilt rear. Late model restoration has some full kits fkr $1200 i believe. Id like to go posi this time around as well.unless you disagree there too.
