Exclamation Mach 460 Trouble

I just recently bought a 2000 Mustang gt. with the mach 460 stereo system. It has an aftermarket deck. While playing music (not even loud) the front tweeters and mid range subs by the door panels both sound sort of like there is some static, almost as if they're being pushed too far. But the volume isn't even that loud. Whats happening?!

couple things.

the speakers could be wrecked. But those are pretty robust. The amp could be bad too.

Also, are you sure they are the stock speakers? the Mach460 stereo uses 8ohm speakers like home audio. Standard car speakers are 4ohm. The Mach 460 amps would eventually burn out if you are using 4ohm speakers

Im pretty sure they are the stock speakers, although I haven't taken off the mach 460 shroud. My guess is probably the amp too. Is there anyway to check them?

Just saying audio problems are difficult to diagnose over the internet and most audio shops prefer to replace the mach 460 as the speakers are 3 ohm (not 8) so you can not use anything but mach 460 speakers and they are on the rare side. Also the amps are not like normal amps in the way they are hooked up.

I would take the door panel apart and look at the speaker if you are capable of it. Inside the area that says mach 460 is the "tweeter" which handles the mids and highs while the speakers in the door are strictly bass.

Are you certain? Everything I have read said 8.

Not that it really matters in this case. not being able to use standard car audio speakers safely still holds true

Just to confuse matters more, I read they were 6ohm speakers wired in parallel which makes the amps see 3ohm. That being said, I have an extra pair of amps sitting around if you decide to swap out amps.

This.

Me, personally, I'm tired of dealing with these ~15 year old speakers in my car...and people charge salty prices for them on places such as ebay. Next one that blows the whole mach setup is coming out and I'm putting in a nice set of components with an amp to drive them.

The Mach system doesn't really sound good enough to justify fixing it.

I'll probably end up switching out the whole system for Pioneer. That is after I get flowmasters lol.

I put in a kenwood receiver and the speakers sounded ok. The speakers are not good. I can turn mine up pretty loud if I turn down the bass. I have a 2001 vert. My amps are behind the back seat. I have two silver amps. That's what they look like for your needs. Many people say you can't run an aftermarket stereo in the 460 system, but that is dead wrong.

I think you misunderstand what people mean by not being able to run an aftermarket "stereo"....they are saying you can not run different speakers and expect it to sound "right" or "good" and last any real length of time.
