Horrendous creaking coming from rack after car gets hot.
Hi all,
I have an 04 GT and am noticing an extremely loud creaking/groaning coming from the area of the rack and pinion.
The weird thing is this only occurs after I have been driving a while.
When it starts, turning the wheel causes a snap/creak that increments with the turn of the wheel, kind of like rubber on metal.
I immediately assumed it was the bushings, and changed them out but this made no difference at all.
The steering is just fine, but this noise vibration can be felt up the steering wheel and floor boards.
Any idea what this could be? I am considering just changing out the rack.

If rack bushings didn't change it my next suspect would be the rag join on the steering arm, especially since it only happens after the cars been driving, the exhaust is probably heating up the rubber rag join on the steering shaft.

I will check that out. This situation is really annoying since as soon as it cools down it's perfectly quiet. Is there another name for this rag joint? I can't seem to find the part anywhere. Is that the rubber thing that sandwiches in there?
