When I start my car up with the key ON the odometer will display properly. When I crack it over and start the car up it blacks out 75% of the time and stays off for 10 - 30 minutes until it comes back on and then may go out again. I know the miles are being recorded properly because if the screen is black and i can reset my trip and when the display finally comes back on it will show 3.4 miles or what ever.

Where do I start with this?

does it work with bulbs? maybe its a short inside the wiring or something. i have no clue

Happened to mine, I took out the cluster and plugged it back in and it solved the problem for me

Happens to me all the time......I think I read somewhere that it has to do with a lose wire and is common on 99-04.

It's common with all fords from that era. Should be just the connector worming loose.

ok i unhooked them and hoooked them back up, it goes out a LOT less often now but its not on 100% of the time. damn near 90 tho.
