Default Tires/fitment

What's the biggest size tire that will fit on a sn95 without modification? Also what brand is everyone running. On the street I'm running Falken 285's and traction is pretty ****ty. I've heard nitto's are good.

It's much less about brand name than it is compound. For example I can run a Michelin, Pirelli, or Dunlop whatever tire which would be an excellent brand name, but if the compound of the tire isn't meant to be sticky, then the brand name doesn't really matter. You should read some tire reviews and remember to consider that ratings are going to be based on competitors' equivalent tire. You'll likely make a decent choice if it's an educated one.

I however do Run a Nitto NT-555 285 on the rear of my SN-95 New Edge and to be honest it really looks nice, but I could run a 305 if I want to with no modification required. This also depends largely on the offset of your rear wheels, so be careful or you might have tire sticking out from the fender.

Nitto NT-555's in 275/40/17 are pretty much standard for New Edge mustangs. If you call the local Discount Tire and say you want Nittos for your mustang, they already know you want the 275/40's in back, they just ask what you want in front (same size in front for me right now).

This is how bad information gets started. A 275/40/17 is the standard tire, and the widest recommended tire, on a 17x9 wheel on 94-04 mustangs. Its also a standard on other year mustangs and other cars but not getting into that right now. A 17x8 wheel is a pretty standard wheel size on 94-04 mustangs. A 15x7 and 16x7.5 were on a lot of v6 cars as gt's and most cobras received 16x7.5 and 17x8 wile the 03-04 cobras received a 17x9 wheel. Since youre in this section, I assume you have a gt or cobra. I believe the 16 inch wheel had a 225/50/16 and the 17x8 had a 245/45/17 tires. A 17x9 or 18x9 is about the widest you can go on the front of our cars, and like I said above 275/40/17 or 265/35/18 are standard sizes. On the rear the widest common production wheels are 17x10.5 and 18x10 with 315/35/17 and 295/30/18 being a common and recommended size tires. I can see a 305/30/18 on a 18x10 wheel but just stating what most people run.

The Nitto 275/40/17 works great on 17x8 wheels, it's not quite as wide as most 270/40/17's. that's why it's so popular. Around here anyway.

im not saying it wont work, hell I seen 315s on a 17x8. But youre paying for a tire that costs more and has less performance than a tire of recommended size of the same brand/type. After going past a certain width on a x wide wheel, the side wall flex increases faster. Also, the tire begins to roll the outer tread. So instead of getting the stated tread width of the tire, you get less and that's before the side wall flex.
The op can do as he likes, im trying to give him facts and not "because everyone else is doing it." And yes, the Nitto brand runs a little narrower but not a 275 is really a 245 narrower. And im not trying to be mean but do you get where im coming from?

I certainly see where you're coming from, but Nittos are proven tires on the 17x8's - they fit perfectly. So, why get more complicated than necessary. Now if the OP wants all that extra info, he's set either way.

Im currently running Nitto 315s in the back on aftermarket 17" rims with no issues. They do stick out a little bit but it doesnt bother me. The cars really dirty, dont judge me.
