1997 Cobra Snowballing Problem...
I've got a 97 Cobra w/ about 130k miles on it. For probably the last 9 months its been acting up where at WOT above 5k RPM it would stutter some, not horrible but noticeable. It gradually got worse and worse. Initially i replaced the fuel filter, then the spark plugs, then the plug wires. None of this made any difference but about a week after replacing the plug wires (from stock to 8mm FRPP wires) i left the lights on and battery died. I waited a few days to jump it and after I jumped it it wanted to fall flat on its face when I gave it any gas. Idle seemed 100% normal (or very close) but as soon as I hit the throttle it would nearly die. I did find out that (in neutral) if I hold the throttle to the floor it essentially revs, almost dies, revs, almost dies, revs, almost dies etc... My next thoughts towards the initial problem of breaking up over 5k RPM were possibly the coil packs, so tonight I replaced the coil packs thinking maybe that was the initial problem, and now this problem.. no luck. So now, who knows if the breaking up after 5k problem is fixed, but I can't get out of my driveway really because it just wants to die... Any ideas? Also it has a cleaned/oiled K&N air filter.

You might have two different problems here. The 5K stutter might be sticking IMRC's.
Have you fully charged the battery, or are you still trying to jump it off? If your alternator is getting weak, letting it charge the battery might have killed it entirely and it's not getting enough power to run the engine.

So I cleaned the MAF and all problems are now resolved. I don't know if the coil packs/wires helped with the problem @ 5k+ or if it was just all the MAF, but we're good to go now. I do have the IMRC problem, but thats @ like 3250 RPM.... I cleaned the hell out of them about 2 years ago and it made no difference.... Not sure if I didn't do it right or as good as I thought, but I think i may just have to go the delete route... Thanks a lot for your responses!!
