"Thump" noise/feeling after letting off the gas..
Hello everyone!
Suppose I'll dive right in
When driving, usually if I'm in 4th and/or 5th gear (5-speed). I'll be cruising at whatever speeds during this time. After letting off the gas at that speed, I will feel/hear a pretty good jolt/thump type of noise/feeling.
I had this similar type of thing on my older 92' 325i bmw way back when. Ended up having to replace a joint/bushing underneath, maybe around the tranny/rear axle'ish area. I actually cannot remember where it was to.
So I am slightly concerned if I am going to need to do this same thing again now on my stang or if perhaps that what I am hearing could be "normal" due to all the torque/power being tossed around within the tranny after letting off the gas as I do.
I am slightly new to owning this mustang, so things are coming about that I am not sure if are normal for these "american cars/fords" or if I need to start replacing things. My buddy tells me that its american and a ford so I'll be hearing different things that I haven't before from my other car.
Hopefully someone could shine some light on this for me from my long yet minimal description I provided.
Car being a 2001 Mustang GT 5-speed with 76k miles and pretty much stock. Bought it off a dealer as well.
Thanks everyone/anyone to may help!!

You sure the suspension is stock? I have upper control arms that make a deep clicking noise when i left of the gas but I def can't feel it. Might be time for some new bushing anyhow, that rubber is 14 years old.

I suppose I will be looking into all these mounts and bushings now.. Lol.
And as far as I know, the suspension is stock. I do hear a slight clicking noise though when pulling out of the garage.. Not toooo sure what that is as well.. again.

Remove the driveshaft and grease the slip yoke. This is the slip fitting into the transmission. Your problem sounds very similar to a known problem with F150s. Get the special PTFE grease from your Ford dealer.

Not sure if this helps as well... And I still have yet to have the time to actually look at what has been said just yet.
But, also when shifting.
I will hear this "thump/clunk" of a noise.. Not as much/bad as when I'm letting off the gas as stated but it is still there while shifting into different gears. Still making me think it could be from the rear/ish.. Hopefully this could be of some use...

If you're hearing low speed "clicking" and a thump when you let off the gas at speed, I think you need to get that thing up on a rack and give it a good once over and get some ground truth on what kind of shape your rig is in.
