Default 1997 Engine Problem

Okay so i had a 1997 GT gave it to my brother and it had an oil leak well we told him to check it but he never did so it eventually started making a bit of knock. Comes back the same day it knocked really loud and bad. Tried to check oil and was empty not surprising but when we add oil it literally disappears like doesn't show on dipstick. So my point to the topic is. Is there anything we can try to look into to fix or repair or is the engine rather blown. Hoping we can save the poor stang. It's a 4.6L btw. (My father is rather experienced with all ford engine but isn't exactly sure where to start to look from because we know it could be a number of things)

If she's still knocking with the proper amount of oil in it,she's done.Time for another engine-the bearings(and who knows what else) are toast.

It won't hold oil so it can't really hold the proper amount it just drains out somewhere.

Is it losing oil when not running? The math doesn't work in your favor. The car is 19 years,it's been driven without proper lubrication, and you have knocks.
If it were mine,I'd be trying to figure out where the oil is leaking from.Damaged pan?Something major if you it won't hold a reasonable amount of oil.

The pan is fine I'm pretty sure idk how long it went low on oil. But pretty sure the oil is just coming out after adding without even starting it.

out of were?
A big hole the rod came out of? head gasket?
You need to find where the oil is going.

would not run it anymore.....it will only tear up more stuff...

Is it not getting to the ground? It has to be draining somewhere. Rear main into the transmission bellhousing? Can't picture where that much oil would hide without leaking to the ground

I'll have to look around those locations. And yah we stopped even attempting to run it once we saw it not holding oil

dude, why are you wasting your time

the motor knocks and made horrible noises and now wont hold oil...but your asking us where the oil could be going and ignoring the fact that its most likely toast
