Hey all

Just drove home my new stang friday night. It's stock. The dealer said to fill it with premum. Of course the book says regular unleaded octane 87+. Who's right? What does everyone here use? My previous vehicle was a beater so I really didn't care what I put in it. Does anyone have a favorite brand they like use? I'm on the east cost (VA). Should I fill it from the same station every time to keep the same fuel consistancy? Any recomendations would be great. Thanks.

Congrats on your stang! If its a v6 or gt, its okay to use as low as 87 due to the compression ratio those engines have. If you have a cobra or mach one, go with higher octane. Enjoy!

Thanks. It's a GT vert. I am very happy with her. It's my first v8 as well as the first time I've driven something that can turn heads. I've only had her for 3 days and she's an attention getter.

Hope you have lots of fun with your Mustang. Mine made me lose interest in my motorcycle,(Harley) the 02 vert is more fun. I think I am going to sell it and buy more mods for the GT! I always run high test figure its better for a few $$ more.

Go with the regular first. If you ever hear it knock, go up in octane. I can get away with regular, but sometimes on rare occasions, it will knock when I'm starting off or at very high rpm in the summer. When I hear that, I step it up to 89 or 93. But if you have no detonation/knocking, don't waste the $ on the higher octane.

There was a thread on this forum titled "octane". Do a search for it then read the thread. I think it was very informative regarding what octane to use and what it really means.

I never use anything less than 93. If you have a GT, then you can afford a couple more cents a gallon. Plus the mods your going to put on (and yes your gonna mod) like a Superchip will need 93.
As far as the gas station, I have heard all sorts of stories. Try a couple of places...5 or six. Then pick out two where you didn't notice bad things with the gas or you noticed more get up and go. Out of those two, choose the better service or the better stuff.. or what ever.
