Default Going to buy a 01-04 GT, questions..

Hi all, going to introduce myself.. I am the current owner of a 280hp SRT-4 (stock turbo) since last July and I'm 95% sure I'm selling it and buying an 01-04 GT. Its quick on the highway, but I'm sick of no traction. Right now I owe about 11500 on it.

I found an 01 Black GT, automatic (i want auto, stomp and go baby!) all stock, for sale for 10,900 at a dealership about 2 hours away. 30k miles on the car, clean title. Going to call the owner up today and make sure the car isn't a piece of crap because the pics were not too clear. If there's any bondo on the car I'm going to raise hell after driving 2 hours and I'ma make sure he knows that.

My knowledge of stangs is fairly limited, but I know enough to get by. The goal is not a race car but a ~350-400hp street car. MY pal has had 16 mustangs and will be helping with installs and what not. I've read around and researched a bit and my upgrade path which was advised by my buddy will be:

GO parts:

ATI intercooled Procharger (P-1SC) @10lbs
42lb injectors
BBK Fuel pump
Offroad X-pipe (bassani or SLP) cant decide!
Catback (SLP Loudmouth or Flowmaster) cant decide!
3.90 read end gears and speedo recal
Shift kit for auto tranny
POSSIBLY a stall converter and mild cam, but this may effect drivability
Dyno tune up at a local shop.

A few questions I have are..
1) Can the stock motor handle the s/c @ 10psi?
2) Will I need anything else? I heard something about a Bullitt Intake manifold once the S/c goes on.
3) Can the auto tranny handle the above?
4) Any other suggestions at all please let me know!

!. it will handle it but if you romp on it alot..probably not because our internals flat out suck. mainly the rods. oh and 10 PSI w/ an intercooler is about 425-450 at the wheels i believe.
2. nope,if you get the s/c kit from lethal performance:it comes with EVERYthing other than a good dynotune. i tihnk most s/c kits are like that though.

3.atleast get a clutch, im not sure on this one though
4.gets some 10.5's in the rear (wheels) because with all that torque you'll easily spin through 1st,2nd and maybe even 3rd.

if you like go see redline everyday like me. stay at 8 psi untill you do someinternal work

Your making a good choice by switching

All of your future mods sound perfect. But like the above poster said 10 psi will be pushing it. Most people on stock internals will stay at 8 psi which will still get you 400rwhp easy with a few supporting mods.

Since you are looking into a s/c i would suggest going with some longtube headers as well because the stock manifolds are very restrictive especially with FI.

If the 01 falls through you can always buy mine! Its an 03 Auto

yeah, 10 psi is pushing it cause the internals... i wouldnt go over 8 IMO

with an auto, id go with 3400 stall, 4.10 gears, and full bolt ons first before going F/I IMO

flowmaster super 40s with an offroad H pipe sounds amazing..

Thanx for the replies. I will stay at a low pressure on the s/c. I am still wondering about the auto transmission and its ability to hold the power of a S/C kit. any suggestions on that or a stall converter or shift kit?

Get a transmission cooler and your just fine. The autos will hold up better than the manuals on these models!

(and before the manual guys bash that just look at how many threads whine about synchros etc compared to auto problems)

I NEVER see an auto with problems.

I actually found a 2002 GT with 9500 miles (Yes 9500 miles), clean title.. stock except for rear bumper inserts, smoked headlights, tints, and a mach1 chin. checked it out, needs minor paint work on the bumper but the god damn car is beautiful.

I'm buying it tomorrow for 9250 cash. He wanted 10,900.

Good deal? I think so!

Sounds a bit too cheap but check it out, make sure it has a clean title clean body maybe a compression test and if everything checks out have fun. If you run 8 pounds that will put you in the high 300s ballpark easily and will still be a reliable DD capable car.
