Looking at an 02 Stang... Should 75K scare me?

RE: Looking at an 02 Stang... Should 75K scare me?
Got 135,000 on my 99GT and nothing major has been replaced. Just intake manifold and gaskets (because of plastic x-over TSB), and mufflers.
Just drive it and see if overall it feels tight or loose. Major looseness will tell you its taken a beating.
But yeah $10k for 75k is a little much, try offering 7500, that would be a decent deal.

Some of us don't consider a car 'high mileage' untill it hits ATLEAST 150,000..
I bought my stang a few months ago, and i've put 6k HARD miles on it. I haven't had many problems..
The traction control switch failed, so that set me back about 20 dollars, the Caliper carrier boot had a rip in it, causing one side of the pin to seize up and totally destroyed my rotor, but I caught it before it damaged the calliper, so that set me back 120 bones for new pads and rotors andMy plastic manifold is leaking a little coolant- but yours may have the metal hybrid if its an 02. i wouldn't hesitate about buyinga mustang with under 100k miles, or even a little over.

at 47k there's absolutely 0 problems so far. going to do belts + hoses in a week or so, probably spark plugs too, and check on the brakes.
mine, with 13k on the clock, was 16500 when i bought it in '05.

RE: Looking at an 02 Stang... Should 75K scare me?
I bought my 98 Cobra w/ 85k on it, and it was close to mint. The only issue was the suspension was sagging a little. I paid $8k for it. I upgraded the suspension for $500, so for $8500 I got a perfect condition cobra. So for 10K you could get a Cobra and still have some money left for some mods that will let you burn any 2v that doesn't have a serious power adder. Plus they're just built better, bigger sway bars, better brakes, strut tower brace (except the 98, son of uh.....), etc. There are lots of little things that the Cobra has that just make it better. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, 305 hp stock! 4v is the way to go!

IMO:
-Give a $6k-$7k downpayment on a new car or car with under 30k miles from a dealer
-Pay $2k~ for the extendedwarranty which will cover the car till 80k-85k miles
-Use the extra $2k for car payments on the car loanfor the first year
This way you get a new car with what you want, you are covered on any problems it has till the warranty is up, and you get a nice like new ride. The only downside hear is the most a dealer will allow you to do mods wise is probably exhaust, suspension, and maybe gears. So if you want to mod, take the loan out for a used car that's nicer like a mach 1 or SVT Cobra(03-04 preferably although the older ones are pretty nice too). That way you have plenty of power and should never have to mod for power on the street. My machstock was enough power on the street togive yourself a scare now and then and keep you happy, for the drag stripit's a whole nother story.

i'm not exactly sure what years had the hybrids- but i think it was 01.5 when it started. When you buy the car- look at the thermostat flange..if its plastic, they fail quite often, if its aluminum- your good to go..pretty much if the flange is black- its plastic, if its gray its aluminum.
A cobra could be a nice option, i havent really found one I like for that price though- However, the 2v is easier to work on.The 98 cobra makes300 Crank HP..the 2v makes 260- 300 HP is VERY easy to attain ona newer 99+ 2v. AND you get to stay non FI- which is nice, if your a broke college student and reliability is a concern. the newer 99+ 2v also makes a couple lbs more Torque. You can't make those 98 cobras look good, but you can make the 2vquicker than the cobra with a few bolt ons (as quick as aStock or Mildly modded cobra anyway)
