Default Slotted or Drilled rotors.

Well this is from a street use Point of view, which are the ones to go with?

I know the Drilled rotors are meant to cool off, but I was wondering what the slotted rotors were for. Are they also meant for cooling, or for shorter stopping distance?

Just trying to get some information for when my rotors are done. I know they won't be able to get resurfaced so that is a negative thing about them. Appearance wise, they look very good.

Which are good for street use?

Discuss.

street use? none of the above, blank rotors are all you need. if you must have slotted or drilled, go with slotted.

If you really want them then get them, but for street use it's so not necessary. I would just get normal replacements

Drilling was designed to allow the passage of gases out from under a hot pad. It has nothing to do with cooling. Modern brake pads have little to no outgassing. Now, holes are strictly for bling; they provide no functional improvement. The holes provide a nice propogation point for fractures. Drilled rotors don't last long on the street. And, since you're decreasing the surface contact area, you'll probably lose a little braking function.

Slotting acts like a cheese slicer. Hot overworked brake pads can create a glaze on the surface. The slots shave that off. The downside of that is that you get rapid pad wear and a lot of dust.

Racing brakes do not use a drilled rotor, but they're usually slotted. The drilled rotors you do see are very high tech, frightfully expensive, and get changed often.

I have slotted rotors, they work pretty well, but they do make a lot of dust.
