Fuel ecomomy
So last weekend I moved into a new apartment. While i was doing this I had my dad's 2000 explorer and he had my car. While i spent the day moving my stuff around i couldn't help but notice how much better mpg the truck was getting compared to my car. Example it is a 45min drive to my fathers house to my apartment. When i drove my car up there it sucked a quarter tank. Now when i drove my dads truck the same route and same driving style the needle barely moved???? Can anyone help me out as to why my car gets such horrible gas mileage? I knew my car sucked gas which i have no problem with but this is crazy.

yeah mines the same way. i dont know how many miles your getting to a tank, but im getting about 200 to a tank which is crazy. I think it may have to do with the spark plugs i have? i dont know if that effects gas or not, i was goin to spray it but decided not and i have colder spark plugs in right now

Did you actually calculate mileage? Comparing how the needle moves between two different cars isn't too accurate. I know it probably seems the explorer is doing better (even though it actually may be I don't know) because of the needle but that's nothing to make a conclusion from.

For a new-edge GT, depending on how/where you drive, anything from 16 to 23 mpg is to be expected. I get 21.5 mpg with 3.73s over my normal 40 mile (each way) commute of 5 miles at 35 to 40 mph in the 'burbs, 5 miles rural at 50 to 60, and 30 miles on I-95 at 75-85.
If I drive around town 10-15 miles on the weekends it will drag down to 19.

well i was just using the needle as a reference point. My real point is that the same commute in my car would use a little more then half a tank of gas and in my dads truck it barely used a quarter tank. I didn't buy my car for gas mileage, But that is a big difference.

I think there are too many variables in this equation to just assume that your Dad's truck gets better gas mileage than your mustang.
I am averaging around 19-21mpg. I need to change my plugs and fuel filter soon too, so that may help as well. I feel that our cars are a very good mix of fuel economy and power. Sure you could have bought something that gets better mileage, but then how much fun would you have with it?
