Exhaust recommendation
Ok...so long story short, I have an off-road x-pipe with flowmaster super 44 mufflers. I was talked into the x-pipe because the muffler guy said he didn't think he could get h-pipes anymore, since I requested the o/r h-pipe. He assured me that they would sound great with the flowmasters. Since I was new to mustangs, I trusted him. Well 2 years later and a lot of forums about h vs x pipe with chambered mufflers...I'm really wishing I did more research and stood by my request for the h-pipe. Don't get me wrong, I think my set-up sounds good and not as horrible as some make the combo out to be...but I want to get rid of all of my rasp and get that deeper sound.
My question is...does anyone personally have experience with hearing an o/r x-pipe vs an o/r h-pipe in person? Youtube is great for general use, but it truly does not capture the real sound in person. Would I see a very large difference if I switched out my o/r x-pipe to an o/r h-pipe with my flowmasters? I just want to make sure it's worth all the money to get a mac o/r h-pipe (prochamber sounds nice but too much $$$ right now) and get it intalled.
Here is my current set-up with the o/r x-pipe and flowmaster super 44s

+1 the o/r h sounds much better with flows my buddy swaped his o/r x for my old o/r h and the diff. was night and day. i am in the process of switching out my mufflers i am going with slp lm1 dumped it sounds much cleaner that way. Check into bullet style muffs with the o/r x.

I had a MRT catted h with my set up (pre headers) and i LOVED the way it sounded...my speed shop ordered me a catted x with my LTs even though i would of prefered an h pipe. I liked my h pipe more then my catted x. Much less raspy and much deeper...id do the h no doubt.

Ok, me owning a stang with an o/r x pipe and flowmaster super 40's, your setup is a lot less raspy than mine. But ive owned 2 mustangs. Same catback but this one has the o/r x on it and the other one had the o/r h pipe. Most definitely will you hear the difference. Right now im at a quandary though...i love the sound of the o/r x pipe and it sounding more like a race car...but i dont like the metallic raspy quite as much as i used to. So either swapping back my catted x, which sounds amazing with flows btw, o/r h pipe, or different catback to go with the o/r x pipe. But you will hear the difference from the switch. Smooth bassy sound=h, raspy racecar sound=x. But i will warn you, everyone says stay away from flows and o/r midpipes because most have o/r h pipes and while cruising, there isnt much character to the exhaust other than drone. With the x pipe, its not as bad as my o/r h pipe was at crusing rpms from 2000-2500. But its all in what you want.
