5 speed vs 6 speed

With the T-56 that comes in the 03-04 cobras there really isn't a lot of difference in the gear ratio from the T-45/3650. I believe first is a little taller though (which means less shifting) and basically they stuck a gear between 4-5. Which is sort of nice because there are definitely some times where 4 is too much and 5 isn't enough.

You won't feel the "drop" between 4 and 5 with a T-56.
If you want to get specific the 6 speed does weight like 70lbs more than a stock GT one BUT you have a removable bellhousing which is nice if you plan on making big power. Its also nice for swapping out a clutch and you can install a shatterproof shield for added protection.
Besides, if you don't like the 6-speed you will be able to sell it and basically pay for a build 5-speed.

he meant it seems like a lot of shifting since he will be switching from an auto to a stick...not a 6spd auto...how would an auto require a lot of shifting? i dont know of any 6spd auto with manual valve body for a ford...

wording made it confusing for me. I understand now. But yea, t56 hold a lot more power than stock 5 speed trannys. I forget what they are rated for but guys are using them in twin screw cobras pushing 600+rwhp and are doing it with ease. Now my buddy blew his tranny with just an upper pulley. But he is running a fidanza 4.3 clutch with a stock 10spl input shaft. But the t56 is the ultimate manual tranny for a mustang.
