Why did Ford replace the 5.0 to 4.6???
I recently bought a 2004 Mustang GT, 4.6. I did not realize that they kept the 5.0 until 1995. What advantages does the 4.6 have over the 5.0? To me the more displacment the more torque and H.P. Just curious to why Ford replaced the 5.0 as it has been such a time tested great motor.

Not heavily at that. Those cars with a boost controller and o/r exhaust will put out 400hp.
OP, the reason probably had to do with emissions. They had already used this style motor in other vehicles and proved to offer better fuel economy and better emissions. Plus they could just make a whole lot of this motor and stick them in everything. Trucks, vans, SUV's, cars.
Also, the 96-97 4.6L had only made 215hp, same as the last generation 5.0L. The 98 was the only one to have 225hp. Dont know what change they made to give it 10hp more but thats the story.

The comparison is still valid. You can make as much power with however little displacement. Its not "stock for stock" or comparative motors. If that was the case, you couldnt compare 4cyl motors. Anyways, I've seen Evo's make over 800hp with 2.3L of displacement...something Mustang owners(specifically OHC motors) struggle to achieve. Its all in how the engine is designed and built. Ford just so happened to finally have gotten it right with the 2011 5.0 that it makes good n/a power and is a monster under boost.
Comparison is still valid. You can make as much power as you want with whatever displacement you want...just gotta build the setup to make the numbers.
