Well there we have it, your elevation is hurting more than the heat. 3605 is pretty high.

Ok, I'll use high elevation as a way to convince myself that my stock mustang can run about the same times as other stock 99-04 GT's.

However, the guy I was up against ran a 7.2 1/8 at 97.7mph! and an 11.25 1/4 at 121.31mph!

So there is certainly room for improvement...regardless of elevation. If I could break 95mph at the 1/4 for now I'd be happy, and 100 after some bigger $ mods would make me SO happy!

Now when I say I don't want a drag car...I only mostly mean that I plan on taking the car to the track each time I add significant performance parts (when possible). Just to see if there are noticeable gains. And when I go I'd like to win! Especially against the new mustangs, challengers, and camaro's. I know it'll probably take a super charger to get there.

So in the mean time I'd be happy with beating most lightly modded new edges, camaros as old as my car, and all the ricers.

I owned the big trucks at the track 2/3 of the ricers, and an old 1990 something camaro....everybody else smoked me.

It took me about 5 trips to the track to get used to the car... ( launching right, shifting right, tire pressures) after that my times dropped 1.5 seconds and. 6 off my 60 ft's.... with no extra mods... you should be able to get some 1.9- 2.0 60 ft's with stock tires. Just gotta play around...

Also don't worry about your reaction time. Your times don't start until you leave... you can sit there 5 seconds after the light goes and launch and still run the same times... worrying about reaction times will just make you nervous and launch at the wrong rpm.
Listen to this guy, based on the bold, and the end of the first paragraph, he basically nailed it.

It takes a few trips to get a good solid idea of what a car is possible at a certain point of modification.

I went 14.5 with a 2.2 60' my first time..

adding DR's my best time after several more trips was 13.6 with a 1.85 60'

I know the DR's helped me a lot, but my driving improved as well.

Good luck.

How much does driving factor in when you have an automatic? I mean it's basically yellow yellow yellow green, smash the pedal and hold on tight. right?

Pretty much, yes. You have to figure out what the best way to launch the car is and be able to do it consistently. Playing with tire pressure will make a difference also. You have a lot of seat time. No reason your car shouldn't be running mid to high 14s.

What I need to do is learn how to get the tires ready for launch with the pre-run burn out (I was to worried about chewing up all my tread), and then once I'm staged get the RPM's up, revved, and waiting before I take off. I didn't even know you were supposed to do that until I took a break and started watching the other drivers.

So I guess I can see how I could be driving my automatic better at the track. I need more practice.

I should be faster with a tuner and more track suited sticky-type tires though right?

You really don't know the answer to that question?

what times are you aiming for? when i first got my car it had 3.73's, catless midpipe, and a cai, and it ran a 14.4 with the previous owner on 18" wheels. I got it and added a tuner and i believe i got it to a 14.2@97. then I added a ported 75mm plenum, 75mm tb, catback, udp's, and went to 17" tires and ran a 13.7@99/100. then thru in a 3800 stall and shift kit and dropped another half second and picked up over 2 mph to get the time in my sig. now i've added 4.10's, dropped a tad bit of weight, and hopefully i can click off a 13.0.

Well I'm sure I'd be faster. I just don't have any idea how much of a gain I should expect.

So what do you think. If I'm running 15.5 now with all season tires and no tune. Could I pick up 1 second with sticky tires and a drag tune?

Awesome! Thanks for the info. If I could run a low 13 with just those mods I'd be very happy. That's where I want to start. 4.10's, TB, Plenum, Stall, maybe UDP. Eventually I'll probably do long tube headers and an aftermarket mid pipe. I don't know if I want a catted H pipe for sound or an o/r x for a slight HP increase.

My wife was getting pretty upset with every new part I'd buy for my car, but now after we went to the track she caught the fever. She wants to see the car win almost as bad as I do now. So once I've paid it off she says she wouldn't mind if I saved up for a super charger. You always gotta clear $1000+ mods with the wife...well you don't have to but it makes co-existing easier

Anyway if I could get low 13's with bolt ons and then add a super charger I think I could have a pretty quick car.
