Smile 4.6L Engine Rebuild or Swap Options

Hello everyone,

I'm new to these forums so I apologize if there's already a thread out there regarding this.

My manual 96 GT 4.6 SOHC is starting to show its age now and is due for an engine rebuild. I haven't set anything in stone yet as I'm trying to gather information before making a final decision on what route to take.

Does anyone out there have any good recommendations on what might be the best option(s) for either rebuilding or swapping out the engine with an alternative?

I would like to gain some performance after everything is said and done. I have about 5K to play with on this project. And over the years, I've done just about every small bolt-on application possible to her so this will be a first doing anything major with the engine itself.

Responses are greatly appreciated, thanks.

I would probably check out modular mustang racing for a forged shortblock and throw the rest of the money on doing a fresh rebuild on the heads, and then save for a supercharger.

there's so many ways to go here, forced induction, high compression NA setup, 4v swap, 5.4 swap, stroker, etc. is this just a dd/weekend warrior?

What are you ultimately planning to do with your car?As stated above there are so many different options for you.Are you looking for a street set up or a drag set up?Maybe a little bit of each?Need to know what you want it for to give you the best options.

When I graduate and get a "real" job, I'll do a "I'm building it to put up ladies" build.

It will be equipped with a proper cobra IRS. B****** love IRS's!

A buddy laughingly told me one time "chicks dig dudes with Cobra cranks" after I bought a forged crank from him
