Default Best air filters

Moved to New Mexico and have been living here for 9 months now. For those who don't know it is EXTREMELY windy and therefore blows this gnarly red dirt everywhere, including my air filter. It is nasty. Really really nasty.

I have a JLT RAI with the S&B 4x9" filter. Is it wise to go with S&B again or would something like K&N or even the dryflow filters from AEM be better?

THe dryflows would probably be easier to clean and flow better, but would catch as much dust. THe K&N filters would probably be pretty good. Not too hard to clean and itll trap the dust in the oil.

I'd go w/ a K&N...super easy to clean and should solve your issue!

Paper filters are the best and they don't really rob much power at all. If you can find one I would go that route 100%. You probably won't be able to find one though unless you have a stock setup or another car shares that size filter. Take a K&N type filter and hold it up to the light. You can see through it; the holes in the media are HUGE. Then the filter oil gets all over on the MAF and throws that reading off so you have to clean that thing too. They actually filter better the more dirty they get.

If your car is in severe conditions like that I would get the filter with the best filtering capabilities aka paper. Dirt basically turns to silicon once it gets hot in an engine. BTW that's the stuff they dumped in cars for cash for clunkers to seize the engines.

Have you considered using a filter wrap on your cone style as well?

This is a great way to decrease dust collection on the actual filter.

Does that hinder performance at all?

If you want the best filtering go with a paper filter.
