Default performance questions/suggestions

ok guys, i know i belong in the sixer section but my girlfriend is going to buy me a gt for christmas and i was planning on doing a sleeper theme to it. i have the supercharger picked out that i want, the nitrous oxide system that i want, and the driveshaft that i want. i think its pretty good cause the s/c can produce up to 950 rwhp at 25 psi (i only plan on running the base 8 psi, 445rwhp), the nitrous system can add up to 500 hp (but i only plan on running the base 150 hp shot), and the driveshaft can support 1000+ hp (made out of carbon fiber and only weighs 20 pounds). i was just wondering what else i would have to change internally in the engine and drivetrain to support that kind of power. right now all i can think of is a stronger crank, bigger fuel rail, bigger fuel injectors, forged pistons and rods, and headers. and i know i will have to retune the ecu. any info as to what else i would have to get to make the engine durable enough to support this kinda power would greatly appreciated. i am so excited about getting this car!!!

also, late january/early february time frame, anyone in the phoenix area with a v6 want a gt front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts, grille w/ lights, and exhaust system from the catalytic converters back?just trade me and swap out. the gt i'm getting is black so of course the v6 has to be black and completely stock. i'm not looking into wasting money getting them repainted. the v6 must not have any scratches, dents, chips, etc. because mine won't.

the supercharger:http://www.kennebell.net/supercharge...gt05-06_3v.htm

the nitrous system:http://visionaryperformance.com/prod...91ddf17f57e822

the driveshaft:http://www.stage3motorsports.com/product/BMRDS005

yeah the gt i'm getting is used but it's free so i can't complain. it's a black 05 gt manual with 36k on it. it's in beuna park in l.a.

First of all - 900+ RWHP means the question is not "what has to be changed", but "what can I keep" (the answer is not much)...

900RWHP is over (perhaps well over depending on the rest of the setup) 1000 at the crank which means the stock block, crank, pistons, rings, injectors, MAF, trans, rear - you name it won't do....

Not sure why you say that you can do this with with 25PSI on a belt driven blower as I have not seen anyone who has...

Second - not to pry but... I would be more concerned about the ramifications of a "girlfriend" "giving" you a car than I would what to do with it... Ignoring the tax implications, even if she has recently struck oil or has lots of money already, that is still a big "gift" and the ramifications of such a gesture render performance mods relatively unimportant...

my girlfriend is half cocopah and half quechan (native american). she gets over 300,000 anually from the casinos and then on top of that she inherited a hefty chunk of land from her deceased father. every year contracts get renewed or whatever in early december for the land. basicly her and her mother lease out the land to farmers and farming companies. so the money is not an issue. she's set for life and doesn't have to work if she doesn't want to. me on the other hand i like to work just to get out of the house. plus i have a lot of back pay coming from VA (almost a years worth) and thats how i'm going to buy as much performance mods as possible.

and i'm not saying anyone has done this on a belt driven blower, it's just what they state is possible. supposedly the s/c can run at 25 psi with a different displacement pulley. and they state 900+ hp to the rear wheels is possible. now i'm not looking to change the block or anything like that. what would the safest reccomendation for hp at the crank be on the stock block? i just have a feeling that those cost the most (the block). plus also would i have to get an aftermarket ecu system to support this? i'm basically looking to get the most hp i can out of this stock block and engine in general. and all together what would have to be changed to get the most hp at the crank from the stock block.

and she's just buying me the car. she told me she wouldn't pay for any mods because of the fact she isn't into speed, just looks. but i am, so why not both of us like it? and by the way, like i said i'm only running the base 8 psi when i get it. i'll slowly work my way up to the higher horsepower range.

i'm not getting this car for like 2 months or so so i'm just doing research right now and getting my sh*t in order so i won't have to make any last minute decisions. always procastinating has caused a lot of trouble in my life so far so why not make the change?

i believe sidmanic has the same kb s/c i want. i just wanna get in 9-10 second quarter mile range with this thing.

Does she have a single sister? Or hey I got a single sister does she have a brother or maybe I can just trade you my sister for her!

No really; About 550 CHP is then end of our 4.6 3v hp range. Yes there will be some that have made more or know someone who has blah blah blah. Call it 550 and you'll be safe. It cost me about $7000 in bolt ons to make 540 hp @ the crank. If I wanted to go for more safely I'd have to drop another $5000 on engine internals; crank, rods, pistons, valve springs and other parts. My supercharger is NOT my limiting factor! My limiting factor is trying to make 80% more power then Ford designed these engines to make. Once you get to these levels in power you notice many other things that need to be upgraded suck as suspension, brakes, tires, wheels.
There is a reason the Shelby GT500 cost $15,000 (MSRP) more then our GTs. My guess is I have $13,000 in upgrades and yes I think I can take a Shelby in any game they would want to play, except the unique factor! My sights were targeted more on a 2006 Z06 and I feel I still have a ways to go to be able to match up with one of those. But wait I can drive both my kids to school in my "plain ol Mustang GT", and there isn’t too many Corvettes doing that in one trip...

As the others have said, you're looking at about 450 RWHP to be safe.

You can get that with a bolt-on blower kit from Whipple, Saleen, Kenne Bell, etc.

Throw in some suspension mods to keep the power on the ground, and that's the reasonable limit. If you want more than this, then you're going to have to rebuild the engine and that is going to be expensive. You'll also need a new transmission and possibly a new rear end. Crossing that "500 HP" line is very expensive!!

By the way, some of the superchargers might be capable of 25 psi on paper, but in the real world things will be very different. You'll have to run on race gas only and you need a specially built engine to handle the HP and to have the proper compression ratio. You will also have serious problems with belt slippage. A few of the guys I chat with that are after super-high HP ended up switching to turbos becasue they couldn't keep belts or tensioners from breaking with the superchargers.

Geez. That's quite a lot of money.

My advice is to stop looking at Mustang GT's. If I were that financial secure, then they'd be completely off my list. Modifying a car is fun, but with that kind of money why go through all the headache? You'd be better better off just buying a more powerful car to begin with.

How about a GT-500? Prices should be coming down pretty soon, then you get the look and the horsepower. Better yet, maybe you can convince her to buy you a new Corvette Z06. :-)

the reason i want the gt is because you have a higher horsepower base to work off of than the six. plus when i find someone in the phoenix area who wants the free trade conversion from me people will think it's a six just by looking at it from the outside and will think i'm an easy kill. the whole point is a sleeper theme.

but i'll take your advice and look at the gt500. if they haven't made too many cosmetic changes than i might consider it. and never will i even think about a z06, i'm a mustang man all the way. call me ignorant or whatever, my sixer has me hooked on mustangs forever and the gt will just secure it even more.

and crazyal, i wouldn't want to go with a turbo for 3 reasons. one is the lag factor, i don't want to have to wait for my boost to kick in. two is being that too many ricers around here have them (not knocking the mustang owners who have them, just personal preferance). and three in my opinion they are too common. i'm not saying turbos are bad, they produce great results. just not to my liking.

okay o5sdi, 550 chp is safe before having to switch internals? how high could i go if i upgraded everything that could be upgraded except the block? and would this get me in the ten second range? any info would greatly appreciated so i can start looking now for what i need to get.

From a purely financial point of view--"Bang for the Buck", a GT with mods will destroy a GT500. Take a stock GT, add a blower kit from Saleen, KB, or Whipple. Make some suspension mods to better handle the HP, and you'll be able to complete with the GT500 no problem. With the $20,000 dealer markup that is common right now, you could build an exact clone (custom paint, 6-speed trans, everything) and still come out cheaper.

I understand why you don't want a turbo. That's your decision. I was just explaining some of the "how and why" nobody is getting big HP from the superchargers. The belt drive can't keep up with those big numbers. There are some shops that make an extra-wide belt conversion kit, and that helps but it still doesn't cut the mustard. If you are wanting 900 HP, you MUST get a turbo.

The stock block is pretty good. The main weak spot is the rods. With new internals you could be pushing about 800 at the crank, my guess. Keep in mind that that kind of power is going to be requiring a lot of boost--and that necissitates race gas. There's no way you can make that kind of power on pump gas.

If you are serious about this kind of HP level, I would call one of the established engine shops like JDM and see what they have to say.

Also keep in mind this is going to be expensive. The guys that are in the 600 HP club have probably $15,000 in the engine alone. With that kind of power you need not just new internals, but a new clutch (high HP clutches are not very streetable), transmission, rear axle, and so on as well.

you are definitely right about the bang for buck factor. f#ck that 60,000 sh*t. i mean the car does come with some stuff they don't have or make for the regular mustang but 60k? get real. only an idiot would pay for that crap at that price.yeah you can get the s/c, 14" rotors, 4 piston calipers, and suspension mods. but your going to be hard pressed to find a 6 speed tranny for the stang or even someone who has enough guts to build one for the stang and then on top of that it will cost big bucks. or the fact that the engine is a 5.4 liter. if i'm not mistaken i'm sure that's the same engine that they have for ford gt? plus you'll have to find somewhere that can build you a dual disc clutch system for the gt. the gt500 just has certain things we can't get in a regular gt but as long as i can spank them i'll be happy.

and something else i don't get: why would they have to run the boost at 13 psi on the gt500 when it has a 5.4 liter engine to reach 500 hp when a regular gt can achieve that at 11-12 psi? i would think that a bigger liter engine w/ todays technology would produce bigger hp w/ a bigger hp base to work off of. i'm just scratching my head on that. i'm defenitely going with a modded gt. having a shelby is a status symbol to me.

now about the race gas. how do you get it, where, and how much is it? is it 100 octane? if so it's not a problem for me.
