Hammer's Aluminator Project

i had some trouble getting the harmonic balancer
pulley installed. i know lots of people have used this
installation tool to install the pulley, but it just
wasn't working for me.
here is the standard tool:
and here is my revised tool setup:
i added:
1) the washer between the large turning nut and the bearing.
2) oversized washer between the bearing and the PVC.
3) PVC spacer.
one advantage to this setup, is that it gets the turning nut
out and away from the pulley, making it a little easier to
get a wrench on it and make the turns.
bottom line is, unexpected problems may arise during your
build and you just got to deal with them as they come up.

As far as running 15 psi. I plan on doing 10 for DD and 15 for the track when I feel like it.
I feel like having ~500 to the wheels driving around town is enough to get yourself in real trouble.

is your last name MacGuyver?

the stock crank pulley came off the original motor
very easily. i used the oem 27139 pulley puller.
sadly my last name is "turn a 5 minute job into a 3
hour job".
well at this point i really just want to get it running
on the whipple tune and establish that things are
working as they should. i don't want to change to many
things at once.

Get back to work!!
Your cookbook webpage is coming along nicely. It would be nice if you put up all the "ingredients" you used. LOL. Seriously though, a list of all the parts you bought to complete the install of the new motor (i.e. head bolts, gaskets, 8 bolt flywheel, etc) would be great. This way people can have a better idea of all the misc stuff that is needed for the short block build (which is easily overlooked when judging total cost).
I wish I had damn garage to do this myself, living in an apartment FTL.

well i'll be able to get back to it friday night, have to go out of
town....i've been putting in an hour or two in the evenings and
it's nearly done. probably going to start it on sunday.
i had thought about a parts list, but it's one of those things that
is kind of best left, for the person doing the project. reading,
researching and putting your own list together is part of the fun.
i hear you on the garage....there really isn't anything you can't do,
if you have the tools and a nice work environment.
