Default Tire questions?

I have an 08 GT/CS with the stock G-Force tires on it. With my 4.10's I can not launch without burning out hardcore. I know the stock rim are 18's but I don't know the width and have looked threw the manual and can't find it. What is the widest tire for this? I would like recommendations on brand. Thanks.

I am going with Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial II on the rear, my OEM rims (Fan Blades I have heard them called) are 18x8.5
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MTT-3780R/
http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/s...StreetRadialII

Tire Size 245/40-18
Wheel Diameter 18 in.
Sidewall Style Blackwall
Tire Construction Radial
Directional Yes
Tire Diameter 25.80 in.
Section Width 9.55 in.
Tread Width 8.45 in.
Minimum Recommended Wheel Width 8.00 in.
Maximum Recommended Wheel Width 9.50 in.

I ran Mickey Sportsman on the rear of my 5.0 years ago and loved them for street and strip. I have heard nothing but good things about the Street Radial II's, will be buying mine in the next 2 weeks.

I believe most of the stock 18" wheels are 8.5" wide but check the casting stamp on the inside of the wheel or you can find the specs in the Ford parts catalog.

If they're 8.5", most of the tire manufacturers recommend no wider than 285 if I recall. But I'd be as if not more concerned with tire compound than width.

18" OEM rims are all 8.5" wide from 05 to 09.
I have 255/45-18s on there right now but next time I am going 275/40-18
still keeping the stock rolling diameter for speedo calibration and such but
mucho wider....

At some point, the Ford sterring stops will be needed
but it depends on what rims came OEM on your stang
as to which steering stops you need to prevent rubbage
up front....

BFG makes a pretty mean G-Force KDWII...

When I had the stock gtcs rims I ran 255/45/18 kdw2 tires. Very good tire also very noisy.
You can run a 275/45/18 on 8.5" rims. The problem is they are hard to find and expensive.
If I had to do it over again I'd go with 4 of these http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...il.do?pc=11554

They are very quiet and have superb traction both wet and dry. I'm running them in 275/40/18's on gt500 rims right now.

The rims are 18x 8.5. One of my customer has 285/40/18's on the rear with stock rims and they barely bulge.

Thanks for all of your responses, I'm thinking 275 now that I know the rim can support it. But as Norm said I will also look at the compound as well.
