Hot Rod Cams and o/r X SMELLS
Have you guys with Hot Rod cams noticed how your car smells WITHOUT cats?
Mine has a SUPER strong gas oder and smells rich as hell. Bama says its normal. Now I never ran my car with cats since I installed the cams but do you guys think cats will help? I mean this thing burns your eyes!!
I have had numerous carburated cars in the past with WAY BIGGER cams and NEVER had one smell like this.
Is it just that carburetors are better with bigger duration cams than EFI is?
My Harley has HUGE cams and EFI and smells normal. Nothing like the Mustang.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Jack

I know you asked for opinions of those with cams. But...
I run high flow cats on my x pipe and my exhaust has a much stronger smell than Mustangs running stock cats. But not to the point where it burns eyes. Prolonged sitting in traffic with the windows down will cause my clothes to pick up an exhaust odor though.
No cat cars smell even more.

jackhammer505, with the hot rods the intake valves start to open
34 degrees sooner, so there's more time before the exhaust valve
closes for some atomized fuel to escape. it doesn't hurt performance, but
yes without cats you will smell it.
i have cats, so my exhaust seems normal to me for the most part.

Do you have stock cats, High Flow Cats ? Stock manifolds or Long Tube Headers?
I'm thinking about trying some high flow cats because the stock cats tend to have that rotten egg smell with these cams. So i'm told

Not to the point it makes my eyes water, but my car (***** thumprs, longtubes, or x, borla stingers) definitely has the smell to it. It's perfectly normal, despite people perhaps telling you it isn't. even a bone stock GT or any other car, with no tune, you cut the cats off and free up the exhaust, you're going to smell fumes to some degree. Have had 4 different modified cars from different manufacturers in the past, and on some level or another when the cats came off, the smell came out. I had my longtubes and o/r x on before my cams, and it was just as noticeable. Personally I love it, but it's not for everyone. Good set of cats will cure it completely or cut it down immensely.

I have Detroit Rocker cams, longtubes and o/r H and yes my car stinks horribly too. I cant even open the vents unless the car is moving because it stinks up the cabin and my clothes. I have to immediately back out of the garage when I start the car or it smells up the house. I'm installing high flow cats this week.
