So Im really stoked, because today I drove 3 hours to go pick up my 2.3t. It's out of an 86 TC, and i got almost everything for the swap - a few things...
I got the motor with the head off b/c it blew a head gasket, and the motor was recently rebuilt 20'000 km ago. Got a merkur ecu, a PA3 or something like that + the engine harness, down side is the guy cut off the interior harness so I dont know what im going to do there, got the small vam, t-3 turbo, looks like a IHI though. Also got a borg warner t-5 out of a TC, with bellhousing and clutch fork and throwout bearing, flywheel and pressure plate. I think i scored a good deal, only paid $450CAN.
Its a pretty big project, but damn. Filled up my garage. Ill post pics in the morning if I can wake up..
Im gonna try and keep this thread up to date, but i work F/T so its hard to find time.
Also, the reason Im replacing the old 2.3 is because i spun a rod bearing.
The stock driveshaft doesnt fit onto the end of the tranny, I noticed that there was a keyway on the driveshaft yoke, that wouldnt fit the output spline of the tranny, are different yokes available?
Thanks

You mention driveshaft. I assume going in car in picture. Are you converting to t-5 from auto will need proper driveshaft and clutchpedassembly etc. As far wiring if going into mustang only need the vam harness to hook into mustang harness. Just repin computer for small vam. That is way mine started with small vam. Sounds like good deal and good luck.
Ecu is PF3... Yes i am doing auto to 5 speed swap...
lol lets just my my garage is 2.3 city.. haha like 10 boxes of dirty ol parts.
I would take pics but my mom lost my digi cam in poland... great. SO Ill see if i can borrow someones.
I have (or will in a few weeks) a PF2 computer. Its kinda the same as the 87-88 TC wiring only it doesn't have ATC and you have to change 2 wires in different spots. It should be close to these instructions I've made, but still not 100% sure on them.
How to swap a Merkur computer* (85-89) into a 1988-1990 mustang
Move pin 3 to 43
Take out pin 25 (ATC on the mustang) and move it to an area the computer doesn’t have a pin (like pin position 42 or 3) (Do not cut this wire if you want to use ATC later along with large VAM, and LA2, LA3, LB2, LB3, or 8UA Computer)
Move pin 27 to the 25’s position
This was just so you could wire up the computer using the stock mustang harness and not using the Merkur harness.
You can continue following the original swap information from stinger’s site or flemworld.com/slug/howto/8790T.html since it’s the same (except for the ATC but you must have figured that out by now)
* Note: The Merkur computers had the same wiring, even the auto ones, they just had different timing so the transmission would last longer. It also decreased boost and you where unable to reach full boost in first gear. Yet again to save the transmission
