RE: 93 mustang lx
you'll never get it to sound like a v8, period. you could throw on a flowmaster 40, or turbo muffler, an edelbrock, or any 2 chamber muffler and it would sound better. The 2.5l upgrade is the use of a 2.5l ranger crank, they don't bore out the blocks, they just use the stroker crank. There are tons of different cams out there, most are for heavy breathing 4 bangers that rev to 9000, but you can put a ranger roller cam in, reduces drag and lets it run smoother.

The 4 cylinder cars will never sound like a V8, it will be close but still not the same. Anyways you can't bore these engines out that much I don't think. Maybe a 2.5 crank out of a ranger will work but its more of a PITA than its worth.
There are loads of cams for the 2.3. The cam you get is dependent on what is done to the car, is it a DD, etc.
If you want cheap HP, get a 2.3 turbo engine and swap it in

To give your exhaust a deeper sounds, i suggest running a 2.5" or 2.75" tubing with either a glass pack or dual chamber. Glass packs can be purchased at various places... If you want to go cheap, you could always stop buy your local autozone and pic up a Redhots glass pack for like $22 + tax. Heck even running the factory pipes with a glass pack would lower the frequency a bit.
Im not sure what your mechanical ability is, but when your replacing exhaust componants, have a couple of extra claps on hand because they tend to rust out.
