How long do stock brakes last?

How long do stock brakes last?
I'm starting to feel a slight rubbing through the brake pedal, and I feel like i have to press harder for proper braking. Sitting at a light, I have to keep harder pressure on the pedal. Perhaps they just need adjusting, but it got me thinking - how many miles before the stock pads need replacing? i have 25,000 mostly highway miles. BTW,I checked the master cylinder fluid level - fine, no leaks.

Depends on how much you brake. Mine were all gone at 25K but I like to speed up and hit my brakes a lot.

But it never felt hard to press the brakes, the only time I felt that was when I installed new pads and rotors it was hard to press the pedal down, only lasted for about a week.

[align=left]Most autoshops recommend that your pads be checked atleast every 30,000 miles because thats usually about the time that people start to need them...if properly braked. Lol.

IMO - its an impossible question to answer. Too many variables in how you drive. I've had brakes last 30K on some cars and 14K on others(well that was with the wife driving).
In a lot of stop and go urban type traffic 20-25K would be a decent life IMO.

As was stated, there are too many variables...most importantly, personal driving habits. I have almost 50,000 miles on my OEM pads and there is still plenty of meat left. Most of my mileage is highway, but I'm also not someone who waits until "the last second" to hit the brakes. So, there really is no definitive answer. Depends on the driver and driving environment.
