OD and shifter info for an '85 needed !
OK, I have two of the stupidest question in the world here, but I honestly couldn't find an answer on the net, so I'm begging for info here.
I have an '09 Mustang with an automatic in it, the OD button is on the shift handle and I pretty much leave it on all of the time. I recently picked up an '85 Mustang 5.0 convertible GT and was wondering . . . here come the stupid part . . . is the transmission and shifter set up so that I need to manually move the shifter to the OD markings to engage overdrive on the highway? If yes, at what speed would it be safe to do this? Never had a car with an OD gear that wasn't automatically engaged.
Also, is the access to reverse and park an electric function? If yes, can I open up the shift handle and move that function to a switch on the shifter base or even the shaft? I ask because the "T" handle is broken and poorly repaired and the button doesn't always work. If I can move it, I'd feel less nervous driving the car, you know?
Anyway, I have LOTS of stupid question, but these two are the most important right now, any help at all would be great ! ! !
Thank you,
T

lol...yes you need to manually shift to 5
far left up is 1, down to 2, up right to 3, down to 4, up right to 5
far right down is reverse, no electric, park just means you pull the e brake
like this....
i have 4.10's im in 5th by 30 mph
if your not bogging...up shift for better MPG
under 1200 would be bogging...i like to be at 1500 rpms cruising

As I confessed, stupid isn't a low enough description for my lack of knowledge here.. I forgot to mention that my questions were about the automatic transmission, an '85 AOD not a standard transmission.
Man, I can't believe how much the newer Mustangs are built as fool proof, it pretty much drives ME. This older car, I honestly don't even know at what speed I need to move the selector into OD so as to not over rev the engine.
Any help at all here would be SO much appreciated, really ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Luckily the internet is private . . . I read that on the internet.
Thanks guys ! !
