Help please.. muffler shop trying to screw me ? 2" 2.25" for 380 horsepower ,I thought 2.5.........
I am getting a new exhaust system and told my muffler shop I wanted 2.5 and he said no I should go with smaller... more like 2" or 2.25. I have been around the 5.0 scene for a while now and know that 2.5 is basicly the standard for almost all 5.0s making less than 450 horsepower. I have no idea what the guy is talking about. Does he want my car to have less power or what ? Those A holes put 1 5/8s on there when I put my first exhaust on. I was pissed !

well i'm pretty sure I'll need some back pressure I'm makin like 380 at the flywheel or so. This motor was tested with Full 3" and made 370 horsepower @6k and 360 lb-ft torque @4k. some are sceptical about it though. I have hooker headers with 3" collectors and have been thinkin about goin 3" all the way but not sure if it would be best.. And I think i'm goin with the Dynomax Race Bullet mufflers.

3 inch throughout might be a bit much, but If I had the opportunity I'd probably go for it. Ive got 2.5 headers to pipes, and catback with 3 inch tips, the tips give it a nice big sound along with the mufflers of course..

some have been saying that 3" would be best since I am going to put nitrous on it. I'll end up going with 2.5 though.

you dont want backpressure!! the more free it flows the faster its gone, and the more power it will allow.... plus you get a kick *** sound
if your going to pay to get the job done... spend a lil extra on the 3's man

For what it worths, I just upgraded my 86 to a 2.5 catback. Factory pipes were 2.25. It was never an option to go smaller!! This guys is smokin crack, I'd find another shop. My stang is pretty much stock and with that, I went with a 2.5 pipe. My ride sounds great.
