Well thats great news... that saves me alot of my summer money. What/where should I look for a good stock block? Will one pulled from a junkyard truck or crown vic be ok? Or would i be better off with ebay
A junkyard motor should be ok. Like a previous post said, the pre 74 blocks are the strongest. Find one of them and you'll be good to go. If you do get a newer block, put a girdle on it, and go racing!!
Why?

i'm hunting around right now to find myself a 351w block... there are a bunch of trucks in yards in my area... so im just going to go for what ever one has the lowest miles...

Hell... you can find a smashed up vehicle, get a running 351 from it and swap it in... change the h/c/i and be running 300+ hp right there.... nevermind if you rebuild it and run 8.5:1 compression and boost it.... omfg that would be sex

Nickel content in those castings is much higher than the newer blocks!!

Would you happen to know how much I would probably be spending if I could find one from a local junkyard?

You're in Detroit? I'm in Northeast IN and you can find them around here for less than $500 unmolested, so up there it's probably even cheaper than that!

I'm just going to get a new stock 351W short block from local engine rebuilder.
cost like $500+$250core = $750
Should be good for well over 500hp.
buy some twisted wedge heads and cam with about .5 lift, good to go with no valve clearance probs.
There are swap kit for about $500 that include the oil pan, mounts, and LT headers.

Look in the yellow pages and call local engine rebuilders
ask 351W short block for fuel injection and roller cam

I'm sure newer complete motors are around for that cheap, but if they have pre 74 motors for that cheap, let me know, so I can come up and buy a couple!!
