Everything needed to put in a 331 stroker
I've really been looking into getting a 331 stroker. I was wondering besides the stroker kit, what other parts do I need? Really i'm just trying to see how much in parts i'd have to spend and how much install is. I usually do all my own work, but this seems a bit much for my skills.
Thanks in advance,

if you buy a stroker kit, you will have to pull your motor, disassembly it and send the block out to be bored and honed. good idea to put in new cam bearings and freeze plugs while it's in the machine shop. the stroker kit should come with new pistons and rods and bearings, so you need to assemble the short block with these. you probably want to get a new hotter cam and new lifters to go with it. a new timing chain and cam sprocket is a must also. your existing heads with a good valve job on them then be reused also along with the rest of the top end of the motor. it all depends on how much you want to spend for whatever level of performance you want. another way to go is to buy the short block already assembled and then just do a valve job on your heads and swap the blocks out. either way is a fair amount of work, but if you label all the hoses and lines as you take them loose and take some pictures of what goes where, it will be easier to do and you will get the satisfaction of doing it yourself. keep all the bolts and nuts in labeled zip lock bags so you don't get them mixed up with each other. you will need a ring compressor for the pistons and you can rent/borrow a harmonic balancer remover/installer tool. you'll also need the cheap tools to break the fuel lines with, cost about $15 at auto parts stores. also need a good torque wrench and a new set of head bolts as the original bolts are torque to yield and are not designed to be reused. you also need a full engine gasket set and a new oil pump is always a good idea too. oh yeah, a shop manual with all the torque specs and tightening sequences is a must also.

my guess at prices
hot tank block......... 25.00
bore block............... 96.00
cam bearings/install 50.00
freeze plugs/install 25.00
line honed 75.00
decked 50.00
just for the block.....plus you need to have some work down for clearance for the rods as material need to be taken off the bottom of the cyl....could be cheaper buying a short block while you drive the car

Nah if you have another car build it off your current setup.
You will need to do a little grinding for the clearances in the block but nothing a dremel or air grinder cant handle.Just remember to go in small increments.
Other than that do a basic rebuild and replace everything you can replace.
If you dont have any intentions of rebuilding this block again i went with a 60 over bore to make a total of 339ci.And EAGLE makes a damn good kit.
