Default Just got my first 5.0

Also my first mustang ever! its a 1989 GT. Once I bring it home I'll post some pics. Its an automatic and I plan on doing a transmission oil cooler and transgo shift kit right away, along with doing all synthetic oils for the whole car (motor, trans, rear end). Anybody think there is anything else I should do to the car for basic tune-up? Thanks.

If you really want it to run good follow my instructions...
plugs
plug wires
cap/rotor
fuel filter
air filter
oil change (you already specified that)
02 sensors
clean MAF
set tps
set timing

Already has new plug wires and fuel filter, I want to put a K&N in the stock air box and take out the silencer piece. How much does it cost to replace (or is it possible to just clean) the 02 sensors? What is TPS? How do I set timing? Thanks for the help.

I spent about $100 for my o2 sensors at Pepboys, I believe. The TPS is the throttle position sensor, and it dials in the correct fuel (and ignition?) mixture based on throttle opening. As for timing, do a search (using the search button at top of the screen) using the words "timing" and "degrees" or something, and some good info should come up. Congratulations on the new car, and welcome to the forum.

Cleaning them will do, but I personally prefer to buy new parts. A new set of 02 sensors will run you about 80 bucks, but you won't ever have to buy another set again. I would only do this when you decide to do your exhaust, unless you are keeping the car stock. I really would reccomend bumping up your timing though, it's worth a very good SOTP gain.
