screw the 302. Do up a 351w. your already gonne be doing a motor swap.. so why not do one thats worth while.

Not to mention, 351w blocks are MUCH stonger than 302 blocks

We were also thinking about that. Is there as much aftermarket support as the 302???

How easy are those to find and we are also not quite sure what we are putting it in yet.

Yes, there are just as many aftermarket companies for 351W's as 302. Basically all the same companies. Anyone who makes heads, cams, intakes, exhaust, blocks, etc. for a 302 theres a 90% chance they will make it for a 351W also. The blocks are much stronger and they can safely support 600rwhp unlike a 302 which I personally wouldnt take past 500rwhp from some stories I hear. I would choose 351W hands down. More reliable, more power and alot more room to grow.

We are looking at a budget over a period of time being right around 8-10,000 for the engine + car (without an engine), Any suggestions on where to get a good block or would a junkyard suffice

a junkyard block will do just fine. just keep in mind that if your going to get something out of a 80s-90s truck... to also buy a main girdle. itll help keep everything in place

you can get a stock 351W block for about $500

make sure you get a 94-98 "roller cam" block though.

you should easily be able to maintain your 10k budget.

you can get full-on ready to run complete from airfilter to oil pan
351W crate engines for about $7,000.
Do it your self for a fraction of that, and buy an old junked body.

You can also build up your own turbo kit for half of what the kits sell for.
just do some research on how the Hellion kit is put together and copy it.

Turbo kits are nothing but a bunch of custom exhaust pipes.

Thanks I got your PM that was all great info. Is a turbo setup with a boost controller possible with a carbed setup or do you have to do EFI

you just have to get one of those "carb boxes" that surround the carb and turn it into a forced induction set-up

I tihnk procharger s/c's make some

It's easy to go EFI later if you want too. TrickFlow makes a 351 EFI intake or you can get them off ebay ( 5.8L Ford GT-40 intake off Lightning Truck)
Stock 5.0 comuter will work fine since they have same firing order, you'll just need a custom chip burned.
