3 quick questions on installing my heads
1. Is there a Left and a right side with afr heads, or does it matter which head goes to which side.
2. my arp studs say use thread sealer if my the studs go into water jackets, and use thread lubricant if they go into just the block. Does anyone know if my studs will thread into a water hole or not.
3. If i need to use the lube, arp recommends to use moly lube or oil. Is it alright to use 10w30 motor oil.
Thanks for the help

RE: 3 quick questions on installing my heads
You can use oil on the threads if the bolts/studs don't go into the water jackets. If
i recall, only the bottom row goes into water. Better check to be 100% certain.
Torque specs:
--Step 1 25-35 ft/lbs
--Step 2 45-55 ft/lbs
--Step 3 75-85 ft/lbs
Torque sequence:

Grimace's tq specs above are correct once you are tightening the nuts on the heads. I think aluminum heads may be different, but I'm not sure.

RE: 3 quick questions on installing my heads
for your AFR heads, they are not side specific, but look at the bolt holes for the accessories in your old heads, the new heads come with 2 threaded inserts that fill the front thermactor holes, just pay attention on which size bolts go in which holes.
for aluminum heads the max torque is 70 ft lbs for the bottom bolts, and 80 for the top. do it in 4 even steps.
the studs themselves only need to be tight, not cranked in as tight as you can.
the lower bolts thread into cooling ports, and need thread sealer.
get a small bottle of camshaft assembly lube, it is a moly lubricant, and you will get correct torque readings with the use of it.
you need more torque with oil, which isnt recommended with aluminum heads.
dont use any anti-seize on any of the head bolts, it will cause incorrect torque readings!
it clearly says in the instructions to use a good quality moly lube on the bolts.

ok now heres a brain teaser... how come on the felpro head gaskets, there is only water jacket cutouts on the rear on the gaskets instead of both sides?

this is how the engines were designed.
just make sure the word front is at the front.
