Stalling problem

Stalling problem
As I come to a stop my ride is sometimes stalling. Not everytime but I would say 50% of the time. My car idles at 1000 or 800 at a stop. Is this normal?
Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying of people looking at me like I can't drive a stick!

RE: Stalling problem
Check your idle air control for carbon buildup. Clean it out with some carb. cleaner and reinstall. If that was the problem that should fix it. If you still have troubles, you might try bumping your timing up a little bit until you resolve your issue. Bumping the timing makes it harder on the vehicle to initially start, but easier to keep running. At least then you hopefully won't stall out all the time.

You might also want to check if you have a problem with the VSS sensor, if a code 29 shows up after running a DIY KOEO self-test, it should be corrected since its input is used to determine the idle strategy while the car is on the move and coming to a stop....check http://www.my5oh.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=145#145 for the explanation.

RE: Stalling problem
Well I have an 88 GT and the idle air control is the little silver cylinder that is mounted to the front of the Upper Intake Manifold right by the EGR. I wish I had a picture to give you, but I don't. It has 2 screws holding it in place and one electrical wire going into it that you will have to unhook. Piece of cake to do and will take a max of 5 minutes.

RE: Stalling problem
me and another guy have been having same problem also, but only after car is good and hot.
drive it 5miles, no problems,
drive it 30miles and stalls out and stutters
discovered it was weak fuel pump

RE: Stalling problem
I will do this weekend. Today on way into work it stalled almost everytime I came to a stop. Driving me nuts.
Now, I also noticed that when it is idleing it is closer to 800 on a regular basis then 1000 rpm's. Where should the car be idleing at?

RE: Stalling problem
Mine idles at 800 RPM. Just cleaned my idle air and intake. It was dirty! Took her for a high rpm drive to clean it out after. So far, my idle is obeying, and it was a quick fix for $5.00 and 5 minutes of work- just make sure the Carb cleaner is safe with O2 sensors...Good luck Bro!

RE: Stalling problem
Oh and another thing to check, make sure your idle screw hasnt backed itself out. I had a problem like that, as soon as i would let off the gas and pressed the clutch in, the car would just stall. i re-set my idle and no more problems. Good luck to ya.
