A/C not working
I believe ive seen commercials on tv from national chain mechanic shops that offer a free check and diagnostics of the a/c system. I just dont remember which one. maybe most of them offer it. So where should I take my car to let them check it out. thnx mike
p.s. what are some of the common things that go wrong on an ac system. i believe that my compressor is shot. How can i test it.

RE: A/C not working
Recharging of the freon is probably the most common "problem" with A/C I would say. Also, the A/C compressor clutch going out is common. I just had my entire A/C system replaced because of the damn compressor clutch - they had to replace all the parts, lines, freon, etc., but after it was all said and done, I'm nice and cool in the summer heat / humidity

My compressor was pretty much gone at the time anyways, not to mention I needed a freon recharge. Also, in order to replace the compressor itself, you'd have to redo the lines and redo the freon as well. Rather than paying $250 for a new compressor, and then at least $200-250 installation, I figured it'd be worthwhile to replace everything and be set for awhile.

At 12 years of age and 130K miles, I figured it was time to replace the lines as well
I see your logic as well, but I also had a few extra bucks to shell out on an entirely new system...

twanger - what exactly is wrong with your compressor? When mine went bad, it slipped like crazy when I turned the A/C on. What seems to be the issue with yours?
