RE: LX and GT
okay thats not too bad then. i was afraid the there would be a huge difference between the LX and GT weight. i really like the ground effects the GT comes with so im glad its only like 200 lbs more. do you happen to know how much the GT weighs? is it somewhere around 3300 lbs?

RE: LX and GT
I've have an 87 GT and a 93 LX notchback. It's really tough to say.
I would go with a 89-92 notchback. In 89, the 5.0 had Mass Air induction instead of the older speed density system that the 87-88s had. The reason I say it's hard to tell the difference between my cars is that the 87 is a little heavier and has the speed density system, 225 horsepower stock. My 93 LX is lighter of course, however the 93s had hypoeutectic (did i spell that right?) pistons, which supposedly dropped the horsepower down to 210 or 215 stock. Someone correct me if this is wrong, but I've read it a few times and i'm pretty sure that's accurate.
I believe the read end gears were different from 87 to 93 as well, something like 2.73 on the 87 and 3.08 on the 93, but again, someone correct me if that's wrong.
Either way, I'd say if you were planning to add mods, go with one that has mass air, 89 and up. The speed density system won't let you do a whole lot to it, and a mass air converstion kit is pretty pricey.
As far as the difference between LX and GT, it is pretty negligible. Go with what you like man, both are kickass cars.

RE: LX and GT
Yes, the '93 models switched to hypereutectic pistons...you were close.
If you want a fox, definitely try to find a '90-'92 model if you want a manual, because the T5 transmission was upgraded with stronger internals so it will hold up to a little bit more torque from the engine. Of course if you don't mind spending a little, you could always look for a '93 Cobra...

is that the same with the GT Hatch? did they get an upgraded tranny in 90 too?
